The Airport Police Command in Lagos has arrested a 24-year-old man, Precious Onudhona, for his alleged involvement in a romance scam that defrauded victims of $35,000 (approximately N48.5 million).
According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Adeola Mohammed, Onudhona was apprehended on February 2, 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed Airport based on actionable intelligence, as he attempted to board a flight to Asaba.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Delta State native joined a fraud syndicate in 2023 that specialized in romance scams on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The suspect allegedly operated under the alias “Travis Kevin,” posing as a white American medical doctor.
The police statement detailed his method: “He was said to have created a fake banking domain displaying fictitious account balances, which he used to solicit funds from victims under the guise of short-term repayment. The funds were claimed to be needed for feeding and medical supplies after he allegedly sustained injuries in the line of duty.”
The Commissioner of Police for the Airport Command, Dr. Olufunke Ogunbode, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate. She reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance against criminal activities within the sensitive airport environment.
The suspect is set to be transferred to the Interpol section for further investigation and prosecution. This arrest highlights the continued crackdown on internet fraudsters who exploit emotional vulnerabilities for financial gain.
