The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, accused of abducting two children in the Tilden Fulani area of Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State. The victims, aged 12 and 6, were rescued safely in Plateau State.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the suspect—who is reportedly a relative of the victims—abducted them over a long-standing family dispute with his uncle, their father.

The children, Halima Hamisu (12) and Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu (6), were reportedly taken while waiting for their school bus along the Tilden town main road. An eyewitness informed detectives that the suspect used a tricycle to pick them up before contacting the family with a foreign phone number to demand a ransom of ₦50 million.
After intense negotiations, the suspect allegedly reduced the ransom to ₦1.2 million, instructing the family to deliver it at Farmers Motors Junction in Bauchi. However, police intelligence traced him to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where detectives conducted a strategic operation that led to his arrest and the rescue of the children.

“Acting on credible intelligence, detectives from the division strategically cordoned off the area, which led to the arrest of the suspect at the point of collecting the ransom,” Wakil said.
In a separate operation, police also arrested two suspects linked to motorcycle thefts in Bauchi metropolis. Investigations revealed that the suspects, Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu and Abdulrahman Ibrahim, stole motorcycles worth over ₦350,000 with intentions to dismantle and sell them as scrap.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that all cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. He also called on residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to nearby police stations for quick intervention.
