French forward Christopher Nkunku has given the green light for a summer move to Bayern Munich, but the Bundesliga giants still face tough negotiations with Chelsea over a transfer fee.

Nkunku joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £52 million and arrived with high expectations after finishing as the Bundesliga’s top scorer and winning the Player of the Season award. However, his two years at Stamford Bridge have been underwhelming, with just three Premier League goals last season.
Injuries hampered his debut season, but his struggles continued despite being fully fit last term. Chelsea are now ready to cash in on the 27-year-old, initially valuing him at £70 million before slashing the asking price by half.
Reports indicate that Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, is a huge admirer of Nkunku’s versatility and wants him to replace Kingsley Coman, who is close to sealing a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.

Bayern’s renewed interest comes after Nkunku rejected a return to RB Leipzig due to their absence from the Champions League, while Leipzig also hesitated over his high wages. Bayern, however, remains an attractive destination given their global stature and competitive ambitions.
The main sticking point in negotiations is Chelsea’s insistence on a permanent sale. RB Leipzig had been interested in a loan deal earlier this summer, but Chelsea want an outright transfer to generate funds for other signings, including Netherlands playmaker Xavi Simons.
The sale of Nkunku could also pave the way for Chelsea to offload Nicolas Jackson, following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.
Chelsea, who recently won the FIFA Club World Cup, begin their Premier League season against Crystal Palace this Sunday. Whether Nkunku will still be in blue by then remains uncertain, but the forward’s preference is clear — he wants to play in Munich.
