Nollywood actress and award-winning filmmaker Omoni Oboli has opened up about her 24-year marriage to Nnamdi Oboli, shedding light on the decisions and mindset that have kept their union strong for over two decades.
In a heart-to-heart conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Omoni revealed that one of the core foundations of their successful marriage was a firm mutual agreement made before their wedding in 2000: divorce would never be an option.
“From the beginning, we both decided that divorce was off the table. It was a conscious decision before marriage. That mindset helped us weather the storms,” she said during the interview.
Omoni emphasized that forgiveness plays a major role in sustaining any relationship. “There’s almost nothing you can’t forgive if you truly want to,” she added.
Reflecting on their whirlwind romance, the actress disclosed that her husband proposed just two weeks after they met, and they got married four months later. “Even till today, I wonder how I said yes so quickly. But I fell in love with how he loved me,” she admitted.
The Obolis’ first year of marriage was filled with challenges, but their commitment to staying together helped them overcome the hurdles. That early decision to never consider separation, she said, was what made the difference.
She also connected her personal story to her latest film project, After a Night in July, which she says mirrors parts of her real-life experience. In a recent caption promoting the movie, she wrote, “Our first year was turbulent, but we chose love.”
Omoni’s story has resonated with fans across Nigeria, with many praising her transparency and the values she promotes through both her lifestyle and art.
