Police Launch Manhunt After Woman Found Dead in Bayelsa Hotel


The Bayelsa State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for a suspected internet fraudster, commonly referred to as a ‘Yahoo boy,’ following the discovery of a young woman’s lifeless body in a hotel room in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the state capital.


According to a report by PUNCH Metro, the incident occurred on Saturday. A source, who requested anonymity, revealed that the deceased had checked into the hotel with the suspect. Shortly after their arrival, the man left the premises alone, raising suspicions among the hotel staff.


The hotel manager, upon discovering the woman’s unresponsive body, promptly reported the incident to the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters. The identity of the deceased remains unknown at this time.

    Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Bayelsa State, Mr. Musa Muhammad, stated, “We received the report yesterday (Saturday). No arrest has been made for now, but an investigation is ongoing. We are making serious inquiries to ensure that the culprits are brought to book. Also, an autopsy would be run on the deceased body to ascertain the cause of death.”


    The tragic event has sparked concerns within the community, highlighting the dangers associated with internet fraud and its potential links to violent crimes. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
