Tanker Explodes in Ball of Fire - The Heart-Stopping Moments Oyo Almost Went Up in Flames!

A catastrophic fire has destroyed properties worth millions at Gastab Petroleum Station along Ibadan-Oyo Road, with a 45,000-liter fuel tanker completely gutted in the blaze. The incident occurred Saturday evening during fuel offloading operations when sparks ignited the highly flammable petroleum spirit.

Emergency response highlights:

• Oyo State Fire Service responded within minutes
• Joint operation with Federal Fire Service contained blaze
• No casualties reported despite massive explosion risk
• Station infrastructure saved from complete destruction

The Scania DAF tanker (Registration XV 97 AGL) became fully engulfed, creating a fireball visible for kilometers. Fire Chief Yemi Akinyinka confirmed the rapid response prevented greater damage, though the tanker was a total loss.

Eyewitnesses described terrifying scenes:
• Loud explosions heard throughout the neighborhood
• Thick black smoke blanketing the area
• Swift evacuation of nearby businesses
• Firefighters working for hours to fully extinguish flames

Officials including SA on Fire Reform Maroof Akinwande and police CSP Adeyeye supervised the emergency response. Investigations continue into the exact spark source during the transfer operation.

This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns at Nigerian fuel depots, coming just months after similar fires in Lagos and Port Harcourt. The Oyo State government has promised stricter enforcement of petroleum handling regulations.
