The gold mining town of Kamituga, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, is grappling with a deadly outbreak of mpox. 

Nearly 1,000 cases have been reported, with eight fatalities, including four children.

Mpox, which manifests as a rash accompanied by fever and body aches, has spread rapidly, particularly among young adults and children.

With over 200,000 vaccine doses arriving, officials are racing to contain the virus in the hard-hit region.
