Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been targeted with severe racist abuse on social media ahead of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title defense in Morocco.
Key players, including forward Esther Okoronkwo, were sent monkey and banana emojis following Okoronkwo's public reveal that cash totaling hundreds of dollars was stolen from players' hotel rooms in Casablanca before the team relocated to Rabat.
The racist online onslaught follows a similar incident involving teammate Rinsola Babajide, who faced racial harassment after commenting on a recent CAF administrative ruling.
Meanwhile, former Super Eagles media officer Colin Udoh confirmed that Moroccan law enforcement authorities have arrested a suspect connected to the hotel room theft, with full restitution expected to be made to the affected players as legal proceedings continue.
"I have been informed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the theft at the Super Falcons’ Marriott Hotel in Casablanca and has confessed."
