President Tinubu Commends Nigerian Navy's Anti-Piracy Triumph at Eko Atlantic Waterfront

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has showered immense praise on the Nigerian Navy for its exceptional institutional role in securing the nation's vast territorial waters, boldly declaring that the maritime force has successfully eradicated the menace of high-seas piracy and drastically minimized crude oil theft.

The President dropped the commendation on Monday, June 1, 2026, while delivering a keynote address at the official launch of the Nigerian Navy International Fleet Review (IFR), a high-profile maritime gathering hosted at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The historic event serves as the anchor activity marking the 70th anniversary celebrations of the naval force, honoring its establishment on June 1, 1956.

Addressing a distinguished audience of naval personnel, international diplomats, and global military chiefs, President Tinubu lauded the modern sophisticated operational capabilities of the force.

He noted that the strategic integration of advanced electronic surveillance systems, rapid response interceptors, and deep-sea combat operations had successfully converted the nation's maritime environment into a thriving engine for Nigeria's expanding blue economy.

The milestone event also featured a ceremonial presidential trooping of colors alongside the official commissioning of three state-of-the-art naval vessels: NNS Mambila, NNS Gurara, and NNS Oloibiri.

Beyond standard maritime surveillance, President Tinubu heavily commended the Navy’s elite counter-insurgency wing, the Special Boat Services (SBS), for their unmatched bravery and professionalism in executing complex internal security missions across volatile zones nationwide.
