In a significant political development altering the legislative dynamics of Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections, the lawmaker representing the Makoda State Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, Honourable Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, has officially dumped the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to rejoin the All Congress Progressives (APC).
The high-profile defection was certified on Monday, June 1, 2026, following a strategic, closed-door consultative meeting held at the Abuja residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin.
Honourable Tomas was accompanied to the capital city by influential grassroots stakeholders, including the Executive Chairman of Makoda Local Government Area, Alhaji Isa Currency, and the Executive Chairman of Dambatta Local Government Area, Alhaji Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta.

In an official communique personally signed and released on Monday, Senator Barau lauded Tomas' return as a highly strategic move that reflects a profound commitment to grassroots progress, institutional continuity, and good governance.
The Deputy Senate President assured the rejoining lawmaker of equal operational opportunities, internal party equity, and structural privileges within the APC folding layout.
Barau further charged all long-standing party faithful to maintain an unbroken wall of unity and intensify cross-district mobilizations to ensure total dominance across the Kano North Senatorial District and the wider northern state.
