The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has inflicted a massive blow on local illicit drug syndicates, reporting the arrest of 48 high-profile suspected drug traffickers alongside the massive structural seizure of 541.47 kilograms of narcotics throughout the month of May.
The state-wide operational breakthrough was meticulously engineered through a series of synchronized, intelligence-led raids targeted at notorious distribution flashpoints, including critical zones in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area, and the capital, Benin City.
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, released an official breakdown on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, revealing an almost equal gender distribution among the syndicate members, comprising 25 adult males and 23 adult females.
The bulk of the confiscated haul consisted of premium Cannabis Sativa, weighing in at an astonishing 540.62 kilograms.

Other dangerous chemical variants retrieved from the operations included 0.1415 kilograms of pure methamphetamine (commonly known as ice), 1.4 liters of premium codeine syrup, and 0.2701 kilograms of potent psychotropic prescription tablets, including Tramadol, Swinol, Diazepam, and Rohypnol.
Among the primary suspects paraded was Lucky Omen, intercepted with a single commercial bag of cannabis weighing 27.3 kilograms, alongside Esther Okes, Joseph Osin, and Prince Aniete, who was caught with a high-purity cocktail of 'Loud' (a synthetic cannabis strain), Tramadol, and Swinol.
Furthermore, a precision raid in Auchi resulted in the containment of Abdulmalik Sunday, 30, and Abayomi Precious, 29, both found holding large quantities of Colorado, Loud, and meth.
Commander Ofoyeju confirmed that while the agency’s legal unit secured three fresh convictions and filed five new indictments in May—bringing pending cases before the Federal High Court in Benin City to 94—the command has simultaneously amplified its Drug Demand Reduction efforts, successfully counseling 31 youth clients and launching the aggressive 'Benin City Teens and Youth Invasion' advocacy program to shield local schools from substance abuse.
