The quiet agrarian community of Ode Oriya, located within the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, was thrown into a state of severe panic on Saturday night, June 13, 2026, when a band of heavily armed gunmen launched a violent attack, abducting the 60-year-old traditional leader of the village, Baale Adeniyi Adelana.
Local sources revealed that the criminal syndicate, numbering approximately six masked operatives, stormed the traditional leader's private estate under the absolute cover of darkness at approximately 8:00 PM, bypassing local security checks before forcefully whisking the elderly monarch away into the surrounding thick forests.
The Ondo State Police Command officially confirmed the distressing abduction on Sunday. Speaking through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abayomi Jimoh, the command disclosed that a combined team of tactical police operatives, local hunters, and anti-kidnapping squads had been fully mobilized to the Owo axis.
Jimoh also revealed a heartbreaking component of the assault: the Baale’s wife was shot in her right hand by the gunmen while desperately attempting to shield her husband from the captors.

"Upon receipt of the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer, B Division, Owo, immediately mobilised a combined team of police operatives and other security personnel to the scene," PPRO Abayomi Jimoh stated.
"She was promptly rescued and taken to a nearby medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively to medical care.
A comprehensive search-and-rescue operation was activated, with security operatives combing nearby forests, bush paths, and suspected escape routes."
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has officially taken administrative command of the emergency situation, directing all intelligence assets, drone monitoring units, and border tactical divisions to ensure the rapid, unharmed rescue of the traditional ruler.
CP Ohagwu issued an uncompromising warning to the criminal gang, reassuring the traumatized residents of Owo LGA that the command remains fully resolute in deploying the full weight of the law to track down, neutralize, or apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.
