The Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has delivered a massive judicial blow to human trafficking syndicates, sentencing a 29-year-old woman, Eniola Boluwatife Adedeji, to a total of 45 years imprisonment.
The decisive judgment concluded a multi-year prosecution brought forward by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
Adedeji was tried on a strict 10-count charge sheet detailing the cross-border trafficking of a minor from Nigeria to Cotonou, Republic of Benin, specifically for forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation.
Confirming the landmark legal victory on Monday, June 15, 2026, the Commander of the NAPTIP Ogun State Command, Bose Jimoh, stated that the presiding judge, Honorable Justice A. J. Adeyemi of Court 2, found the defendant guilty on nine out of the ten counts filed against her.
While the 45-year total penalty translates to five years for each convicted count, the court ordered the jail terms to run concurrently, meaning she will serve five calendar years in a federal correctional center.
“On the 5th of June, 2026, NAPTIP, Ogun State Command, secured the successful prosecution and conviction of one Eniola Boluwatife Adedeji... in connection with the trafficking of one minor for sexual exploitation in Cotonou, Republic of Benin," Commander Bose Jimoh disclosed.
"The defendant was arrested on 18th August 2024 by officers of the Nigeria Police Force at Adigbe, Abeokuta... and was subsequently arraigned on 24th September 2024. Trial commenced on 12th March 2025, and judgement was delivered on 5th June 2026.”
This conviction follows a closely mirrored enforcement campaign by NAPTIP in the region, which recently saw a 27-year-old male trafficker, Chukwuemeka Iheamama, bagged a 12-year jail sentence before the same Abeokuta High Court.
Iheamama was proven guilty of exploiting two 15-year-old minors, identified as Bright Edim and Mary Ekong, and was ordered to pay N750,000 in accumulated fines.
NAPTIP reaffirmed that these consecutive judicial victories underscore its absolute commitment to working alongside the Nigeria Police Force to systematically close down cross-border illicit networks targeting vulnerable children.
