A United States-based medical practitioner, identified as Dr. Afolabi, narrowly escaped death on Monday after an irate mob in Ibadan falsely accused him of kidnapping.
The incident occurred at the Second Powerline Area of Ologuneru along the Eleyele–Ido Road.
Before the arrival of the Oyo State Police Command, the crowd had already set the doctor's Lexus RX 330 SUV on fire and subjected him to a severe assault.

The misunderstanding reportedly began at the Polytechnic gate during a routine inspection.
When security operatives saw two girls, aged 12 and 15, in the vehicle, the doctor’s explanation was deemed unsatisfactory.
The tension escalated when the girls, who were unable to communicate fluently in English or the local dialect, were suspected of being victims of abduction.
However, police investigations later revealed that the girls were lawfully entrusted to Dr. Afolabi by a family friend, Mrs. Idowu Abimbola, to be taken to his mother for domestic assistance.
According to Qubes Magazine, Commissioner of Police CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga has condemned the "jungle justice" and warned that the spread of unverified information on social media poses a major threat to public order.
The doctor is currently receiving treatment at Police Medical Services, while the command has launched a full investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for the assault and the destruction of the vehicle.
