In a major boost to regional counter-insurgency and internal stabilization efforts, the Nigerian Navy has officially transferred five suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to the Anambra State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) for advanced custodial interrogation.
The strategic capture of the suspects was engineered by tactical personnel deployed to the Naval Outpost (NOP) in Onitsha, who were acting on actionable defense intelligence.
Naval commandos executed a high-precision raid at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Amiyi, targeting a hidden coordination hub within the Ogbaru Local Government Area—a riverine territory that has historically been exploited by separatist elements as a logistics launching pad.
According to a security statement released by Commodore Abiodun Folorunsho, the Naval Director of Information, preliminary field de-briefings successfully unmasked one of the detained individuals as the operational coordinator directing the outlawed group's tactical movements, extortion rings, and enforce-at-home mandates across the surrounding rural communities.

The remaining four suspects were identified as vital network logistics links and enforcers.
Emphasizing the importance of seamless intelligence sharing among Nigeria's defense architecture, Commodore Folorunsho stated:
"Initial findings indicated specific geographic locations within Ogbaru that were actively utilized by the syndicate for subversive meetings and illegal youth recruitment activities.
In accordance with established inter-agency cooperation protocols and existing security regulations, the suspects have been handed over to the Department of State Services for comprehensive investigation and appropriate legal action.
This operation highlights the Nigerian Navy’s ongoing commitment to supporting internal security operations and its continuous efforts to combat criminality, violent extremism, and threats to national security within joint operational areas."
The Ogbaru general area has remained a primary focus for joint security tasks forces due to its dense foliage and proximity to the River Niger, which secessionist militants have routinely used to establish camps.
With the custody of the five suspects now fully transferred to the DSS Anambra Command, counter-terrorism analysts expect investigators to extract vital cryptographic phone records, network contacts, and funding sources that could lead to the further dismantlement of remaining insurgent cells operating across the South-East geopolitical zone.
