A young boy is currently fighting for his life after being hit by a stray bullet during a violent clash between residents and federal agents in Cross River State.
The chaotic incident unfolded in the Ikang community of Bakassi Local Government Area, right after operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency executed a planned anti-narcotics raid.
The security operation successfully led to the arrest of two targeted drug dealers and the confiscation of high-quality illegal substances.
However, tension quickly flared through the neighborhood when an angry mob formed and violently attacked the anti-drug operatives, causing widespread panic and a frantic stampede among local residents.

An eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene where community members had to run for cover as gunshots echoed through the market area.
"Gunshots were suddenly heard during the confrontation, and people started running," an anonymous eyewitness stated.
"After the situation calmed down, it was discovered that a young boy had been hit by a stray bullet and was lying on the ground before he was rushed to the hospital."
The state command of the anti-drug agency has officially confirmed the operational ambush but noted that their officers managed to secure both the suspects and the evidence before retreating.
"It is true that our officers were at Bakassi for an operation," said Sebastian Lebo, the NDLEA Public Relations Officer for Cross River State. "The two dealers that were targets were arrested with good quality exhibits and are now in custody. Our officers came under mob attack and unfortunately there was an injury."
Lebo further disclosed that the injured boy was quickly evacuated from the scene and is currently receiving emergency medical treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, where he is reportedly responding positively to clinical care.
