Grammy-nominated Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has shared the personal reasons behind her decision to avoid romantic relationships during her high school years.
The 23-year-old Mavin Records star revealed in a recent interview with Quenlin Blackwell that her choice was a strategic move to protect her long-term reputation.
The "Sabi Girl" explained that she was always acutely self-aware and wary of the labels that come with teenage dating.
“Because I didn’t want to be someone’s ex, I didn’t date in high school,” she said, admitting that she often viewed advances from classmates with suspicion.
She noted that whenever a guy approached her, she would immediately search for an "ulterior motive" rather than taking the interest at face value.
