Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have achieved a major breakthrough in the fight against secret cults with the arrest of 25 suspects, including 10 females.
The operation took place on May 3, 2026, in Oku Abak Village, located within the Abak Local Government Area of the state.
The raid was executed following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, to dismantle criminal networks across the state.
According to a statement released on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspects were caught while assembling at a notorious "black spot."
“ERS operatives stormed a notorious black spot located at Oku Abak Village... where suspected members of a secret cult confraternity were reportedly assembling,” the statement read.
Among the male suspects identified are Ubong Victor, Gabriel Utitofon, and Moses Eno, while the female suspects include Ella Sunday, Esther Samuel, and Hope Edet.
During the search, police recovered a locally made pistol, live cartridges, a cult-branded red beret, and a minibus.
According to Qubes Magazine, the Akwa Ibom State Government has recently increased its collaboration with security agencies to curb the rising influence of cultism in rural communities. The police have warned all criminal elements to desist or face the full weight of the law.
