A 21-year-old man, identified as Beran A., has appeared in an Austrian court to face charges related to a foiled terror plot targeting a Taylor Swift concert in 2024.
The planned attack led to the high-profile cancellation of three "Eras Tour" dates in Vienna, leaving thousands of fans devastated.
According to a report by AFP, the suspect was led into the courtroom by masked security personnel on Tuesday.
Prosecutors allege that Beran A. became a member of the Islamic State (IS) in 2023 and spent months "openly aligning himself" with the group while sharing extremist propaganda online.
The court heard that the suspect attempted to acquire weapons and was working on a specific shrapnel bomb designed for mass casualties.
Investigations also linked him to potential attack plans in Dubai and Istanbul. Another 21-year-old, Arda K., is standing trial alongside him as part of what authorities call a "highly dangerous IS terror cell."
Taylor Swift later shared her heartbreak over the incident on social media, stating,
"The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many had planned on coming to those shows."
If convicted, Beran A. faces up to 20 years in prison.
