The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha'u Ahmed, has debunked viral reports claiming that corps members are being forced to sign documents absolving the scheme of responsibility in the event of an abduction.
During a briefing on Monday, April 20, 2026, the DG labeled the claims as "laughable" and "unfortunate," challenging anyone to produce a copy of the alleged document.
To address real security concerns, General Ahmed revealed that the scheme has proactively relocated orientation camps in volatile areas.
The Kwara State camp has been moved from Yipata to Ilorin, while the Kebbi State facility was relocated from Dakingari to a more secure site along the Jega road.
“If such a compelling undertaking were real, copies would have already been circulated online by the corps members themselves,” the DG stated, dismissing the rumors.
The DG also issued a vital security advisory to all prospective corps members regarding travel.
He warned against movements after 6 PM, urging travelers to break their journeys and seek shelter at military formations, police stations, or NYSC facilities once evening sets in.
He emphasized that the safety of "Corpers" remains the scheme's top priority as they embark on their service year.
