The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 27-year-old Kabiru Nuhu for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father on fire in Kazaure town.
The horrific incident, which occurred in the early hours of April 1, 2026, has left the Magama Quarters community in shock.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed that the suspect doused his father with a flammable substance, suspected to be petrol, before igniting it.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, Kabiru Nuhu, poured a flammable substance... on his father and set him ablaze. The suspect was arrested with fresh burn injuries and wounds on his forehead, arms and toes,” Adam said in a statement.
The Commissioner of Police, Haruna Yahaya, has condemned the act and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse.
The suspect currently faces charges of patricide, a capital offense under Nigerian law.
