Everything App Pivot: Elon Musk’s X Launches ‘XChat’ to Take on Meta’s WhatsApp
In a major strategic shift, Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) has launched XChat, a standalone messaging app currently available for iOS users.
The move marks a departure from the "single app for everything" concept, as X begins to unbundle services into distinct platforms to better compete with tech giants like Meta.
XChat offers a suite of features including high-definition audio and video calling, text messaging, and group chats.
Prioritizing user security, the app is end-to-end encrypted and includes privacy tools such as disappearing messages, message editing, and a built-in screenshot blocker.
Notably, X has stated that the app will remain ad-free and tracking-free, relying on a PIN-based security system to protect user identities.
