EFCC Investigates Suspected Fake Lawyer for Using Forged NBA Seal in Official Petitions

Operatives of the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate II have arrested John Anoruo, a 55-year-old suspected fake lawyer operating a consultancy in Ikorodu.

The arrest, which took place on April 20, 2026, followed a bizarre turn of events where Anoruo’s own petition to the commission exposed his alleged fraud.

Anoruo had submitted a petition against a Nigerian firm in September 2025. However, during a routine verification, EFCC investigators discovered that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal on his legal documents was a forgery.

Under interrogation, Anoruo reportedly admitted that he purchased the forged seal from a business center in Lagos.

While he claimed to have obtained a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2018, he confessed to never attending the Nigerian Law School or being called to the bar.

The EFCC has confirmed that the suspect will face prosecution once the investigation is concluded.
