According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, the President has appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Additionally, Dr. Muttaqha Darma has been named the Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.

The SGF explained that these changes are designed to strengthen synergy in governance and ensure the "impactful delivery" of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The outgoing ministers have been directed to conclude their handover processes by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Taiwo Oyedele, a renowned tax expert, had previously been appointed as the Minister of State for Finance in March 2026, and his elevation is seen as a strategic shift toward more aggressive economic reforms.
