Borno Explosions: Governor Zulum Condemns "Barbaric" Ramadan Attacks, Calls for Vigilance
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has issued a passionate plea for calm and increased security following the triple explosions that rocked Maiduguri on Monday evening.
Speaking from Saudi Arabia, where he is currently performing the Lesser Hajj (Umrah), the Governor described the attacks as a "despicable and cowardly" act targeting innocent citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.
The explosions, which occurred near the Post Office area and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) gate, have left the state capital in a state of high tension.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Zulum attributed the sudden surge in terror activities to the success of ongoing military operations.
“The recent surge in attacks is not unconnected with intense military operations in the Sambisa forest and other hideouts of the insurgents. The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane,” Zulum stated.
Despite being abroad, the Governor assured residents that he is in constant communication with security heads.
He emphasized that the military is "on top of the situation" and that specific measures have been deployed to protect places of worship and public squares as the festive period approaches.
The Borno State Police Command is still compiling a full report on casualties, but Zulum urged the public not to give in to fear.
He encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest security post immediately to forestall further breaches.
