Nollywood actor Ibrahim Suleiman has firmly rejected allegations that he failed to promote a movie he featured in, calling out a content creator for spreading what he describes as false information that threatens his hard-earned reputation.
The actor's response comes after movie commentator Dami Dawson called him out in a viral video, claiming that Suleiman did not promote the film "Dead Tide" despite being paid for his role. Dawson's allegations sparked reactions across social media, prompting Suleiman to set the record straight.
In a detailed video posted on his Instagram page, the actor presented his side of the story while demanding a formal apology from Dawson. Suleiman began by explaining why he rarely responds to such accusations but felt compelled to speak this time.
"I have never done this before but I realized that in today's society that silence is mistaken for consent or confirmation," Suleiman stated. "Earlier this evening, I got some messages and I saw a video that someone called me out that I didn't promote a film that I was in. The film is titled Dead Tide, which came out last year."
The actor provided a timeline of events, explaining that the film was initially scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2025 but was pushed back to April. When he didn't hear anything by April, he proactively reached out to the producer and director.
"I called the producer and director of the movie when I didn't hear anything. He told me some things came up and they had to push it back further," Suleiman recounted. He informed them about his planned summer trip to the United States for art exhibitions and meetings with curators, to which the producer agreed it was fine.
According to Suleiman, when promotional materials eventually came out, he fulfilled his contractual obligations by posting teasers, trailers, and screening information on his Instagram stories. However, he could not attend the premiere personally as he was already in the US.
"I asked my wife to attend the premier. I sent her the details and she realized she was filming at Ikeja that day and the premier was happening at Sango Tedo," he explained. He also informed friends about the screening, some of whom attended while others couldn't make it.
The actor expressed bewilderment at why someone would wait nearly a year to make such accusations. "Now, tell my why someone will come on instagram almost a year later and start to call me out, claiming that I failed to promote a film we contractually obligated to promote?"
Suleiman emphasized his commitment to professionalism throughout his nine-year career in Nollywood. "I spent so much time in the nine years I have been in Nollywood to make sure that my white stays white. I stay on my lane, I do my job and I carry good vibes."
He issued a direct challenge to Dawson: "You will not be the person that will make me jump in the mud. When you have your fact, I want a formal apology on that same page that you had the guts to post trash about me."
The actor concluded with a strong warning: "For the records, I have worked with a lot of producers and nobody has had problem with me. It is important that you remind yourself that the trash you are spewing will not swallow you. Please, be guided. I am not stupid. I want to stay in my lane, please stay in your lane."
Meanwhile, Dawson has since posted an apology video on his social media page, apologizing to Ibrahim Suleiman and other actors he had called out, including Ikechukwu and Mo Bimpe.
