Gunmen Abduct 10 Passengers in Kogi Highway Ambush, Victims in Three Vehicles Taken

Gunmen abduct 10 passengers Kogi highway Ejule Aloma road kidnapping

Gunmen have abducted ten passengers in a brazen highway ambush along the Aloma-Ejule road in Kogi State's Ofu Local Government Area, sparking alarm among residents.

The incident occurred on February 9, 2026, around 5 pm when the assailants mounted barricades on the road. The first three vehicles that encountered the blockade—a Siena bus, a Honda Accord, and a Jeep—were ambushed, and all ten occupants were forcefully taken.

Four victims were in the Siena bus, three in the Honda Accord, and three in the Jeep. The vehicles were reportedly traveling from Ejule towards Enugu State. Other passengers who managed to escape sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment at the Comprehensive Hospital in Aloma.

A joint operation involving the Nigerian Army, local vigilantes, and the police is currently underway to track the kidnappers and rescue the victims. Concerned residents have called on the Kogi State Government to deploy recently purchased surveillance drones to aid in locating the criminals.

Efforts to obtain an official statement from the Kogi State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of reporting, as the phone line of the Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, could not be reached.

This attack highlights the persistent insecurity on interstate highways in Nigeria, particularly in the North-Central region, where commuters remain vulnerable to kidnapping and armed robbery despite security presence.
