The Lagos State Government has launched a four-day integrated drivers' care initiative aimed at benefiting at least 10,000 professional drivers with comprehensive health and safety services.
Flagged off by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, the programme includes drug screening, substance abuse awareness, eye examinations, and the provision of corrective glasses.
Adekoya stated that the initiative aligns with the state’s THEMES+ agenda, focusing on traffic safety, driver training, health, and social inclusion. It will be executed in various locations across Lagos, starting at the Lilly Pond Truck Terminal.
“This programme reflects the state government’s commitment to people-centred governance in a bid to improve overall road safety, wellbeing of transporters, human dignity and prevent accidents,” Adekoya said.
In a related development, global ride-hailing platform inDrive hosted an appreciation event for its top drivers in Lagos. The gathering brought together 50 platinum drivers for an interactive session celebrating their dedication and impact.
Country Representative Oladimeji Timothy emphasized the company's people-first culture and commitment to building a strong driver community. He also announced the introduction of the inDrive Drivers Academy, designed to add value and elevate drivers' professional experiences.
The Lagos State initiative addresses critical health factors that contribute to road accidents, such as impaired vision and substance abuse, while promoting the well-being of a vital workforce in Africa's largest megacity.
