The Delta State Police Command has arrested nine suspects and recovered a cache of weapons in a major operation targeting cult-related violence, particularly in Ughelli. The crackdown was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, following recent deadly clashes between rival cult groups.
According to the command's spokesperson, Bright Edafe, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) first arrested two suspects: Warri Ochuko (40) and Lucky Okohwoake (23). Their confessions led to the arrest of six additional suspects linked to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
The suspects admitted involvement in the killing of 37-year-old Alex Adanike on January 15, 2026, in the Iwhrekpokpo area of Ughelli. A locally made gun and four live cartridges were recovered from the initial arrests.
In a separate operation in Sapele on January 26, CP-SAT operatives raided a criminal hideout in the Irapa area, arresting three more suspects. The raid yielded a wooden-carved pistol, a battle axe, a bulletproof vest, illicit drugs, and a white Toyota Venza suspected to be used for criminal operations.
The police stated that profiling and investigations are ongoing to determine the suspects' full involvement in cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes. The operation underscores the command's intensified efforts to dismantle cult networks and restore peace in the state.
