The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a significant increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), raising its gantry price from N699 to N799 per litre. Consequently, MRS retail outlets will now sell petrol at N839 per litre.
In a statement released Monday evening, the refinery explained that the increase marks the end of a temporary festive season price support intervention. “With the festive period concluded, PMS prices have been modestly realigned to sustainable levels to support long-term market stability and affordability,” the statement read.
The refinery highlighted its previous efforts to cushion consumers, absorbing high costs during the 2024 and 2025 festive seasons to promote affordability. However, it noted that many filling stations failed to reflect the reduced prices at the pump, denying Nigerians the intended benefits.
CEO of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, reassured the public of continued supply, stating the refinery is supplying approximately 50 million litres of PMS daily to the domestic market. He emphasized the refinery’s role in stabilizing the market, saying, “As a domestic producer, Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to shield the Nigerian market from import-related volatility and external supply disruptions.”
The refinery also underscored its operational flexibility, which allows it to maintain supply even during planned maintenance, ensuring nationwide distribution remains stable and uninterrupted.
