Conservative commentator Candace Owens has publicly reacted to Kanye West's (Ye) recent public apology for his past antisemitic remarks, reaffirming her unwavering support for the rapper. Owens addressed the apology in a Tuesday episode of her podcast, stating that while she does not always agree with him, she considers him "like a brother."
Ye's apology, published as a full-page letter in The Wall Street Journal, expressed deep regret to both the Jewish and Black communities, attributing some of his past behavior to an undiagnosed frontal lobe injury and bipolar disorder. He stated he was not asking for sympathy but hoped to earn forgiveness.
"If he wants to apologize to people that he specifically has hurt, he is welcome to do that," Owens said. She emphasized that his apology did not affect her own political viewpoints. "This has nothing to do with my viewpoints whatsoever on Israel, people who mass murder children," she added, before making her stance clear: “I support Ye in everything that he does.”
Owens explained the nature of their friendship, saying, “Ye is always doing whatever he wants to do. And the reason why he and I get on so well is because Ye’s got to be Ye and Candace has got to be Candace. It’s just how it works.”
Earlier this month, Owens also made headlines by refusing to pay licensing fees to use Ye's music on her podcast, accusing music labels of exploitation. Her reaction underscores the complex dynamics surrounding Ye's public contrition and the loyal support he retains within certain circles.
