Armed men have abducted a pregnant woman, Mary Jesulayomi, in Ayede Community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the assailants stormed the area, firing gunshots into the air and causing panic among residents.
In a viral video, a community elder, Pa Ogunleye Mese, narrated how the gunmen invaded at about 7:00 PM. He revealed that the attackers attempted to kidnap him and his wife, but they managed to escape. However, the pregnant woman, who was at their shop to make a purchase, was seized and taken away.
“The gunmen suddenly arrived and began shooting, throwing the community into confusion before abducting the woman,” Mese explained in the Akure dialect.
The Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the abduction. He stated that the command has deployed tactical teams to the area and that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim and apprehend the kidnappers.
This incident adds to a recent spate of kidnappings in the state. TVC News had previously reported a violent attack by suspected kidnappers on Liberty Avenue in the same local government area, which led to the abduction of another woman and injuries to two persons, including a man shot while driving into his residence.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to tackling the security challenge and restoring safety to the affected communities.
