In a blistering critique that has escalated diplomatic tensions, former United States President Donald Trump has labeled Nigeria a "disgrace" and threatened to withdraw American financial support, accusing the Federal Government of being "ineffective" in halting the killings of Christians.
The remarks were made in an audio message aired on Fox News Radio’s The Brian Kilmeade Show on Friday, where Trump intensified his verbal assault on Nigeria's security situation.
“I think Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace. They are killing people by the thousands. It is a genocide, and I am really angry about it,” President Trump stated, leaving no room for ambiguity in his condemnation.
He directly threatened the cessation of U.S. subsidies to Nigeria, a move that could have significant economic implications. “And we pay, you know, we give a lot of subsidy to Nigeria. We are going to end up stopping. The government has done nothing. They are very ineffective.

This incident is not the first from Trump, who had previously declared Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern, claiming Christianity was “facing an existential threat” in the nation. He had warned that if the Nigerian government failed to act, the American response would be “fast, vicious, and sweet.”
The escalating situation prompted the Nigerian government to dispatch a high-level delegation to the United States for urgent consultations. The delegation, led by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, met with US Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth, at the Pentagon on Thursday.
According to a statement from the Pentagon, Secretary Hegseth urged Nigeria to take "decisive action" against the growing attacks targeting Christian communities. Furthermore, US Congressman Riley Moore met with the Nigerian delegation on Wednesday night in Washington, DC, describing their talks as “frank, honest, and productive” and focusing on counterterrorism collaboration and the protection of vulnerable communities.
