French President Emmanuel Macron has filed a defamation lawsuit against American right-wing media personality Candace Owens over her persistent and false claims that his wife, Brigitte Macron, is actually a man. The lawsuit, which includes 22 counts of defamation, accuses Owens of orchestrating “a campaign of global humiliation” to profit from spreading these baseless accusations.
According to court documents, Owens published multiple videos starting in March 2025, including one titled “Is France’s First Lady a Man?” and followed up with an eight-part podcast series called Becoming Brigitte. She also reportedly sold merchandise related to these claims. The Macrons allege that Owens ignored credible evidence disproving her accusations and mocked their requests for retractions.
“The falsehoods have taken a toll on the Macrons,” their lawyers said in a statement, “subjecting them to relentless bullying worldwide and causing economic damage.” The complaint details outrageous allegations Owens made, including accusations of identity theft, incest, CIA mind control programs, and forgery.
Represented by the renowned law firm Clare Locke, famous for high-profile defamation victories like the Dominion case against Fox News, the Macrons are prepared to take the case to trial in Delaware. This legal battle seeks to finally end what the Macron family calls a damaging and malicious smear campaign.
