A tragic incident has occurred in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, where a 25-year-old man, Abdulraman Rabiu, allegedly stabbed his cousin, Adamu Abubakar, to death during a fight.
The fatal incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Lafia Garage, North Bank area of Makurdi. According to a police source, a physical altercation broke out between the two relatives, which escalated into violence.
“It was reported that the suspect stabbed his 35-year-old cousin, Adamu Abubakar, during a physical altercation between them,” the source said.
After the stabbing, an angry mob descended on Abdulraman, beating him severely before local authorities intervened. Both the suspect and the victim were rushed to Divine Love Hospital, Low Level, Makurdi, where Adamu was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
Police authorities have since transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
Though the motive behind the fight remains unclear, sources indicate that it may have stemmed from family-related tensions that spiraled out of control.
Local residents expressed shock at the incident, urging authorities to dig deeper into the matter and take appropriate legal steps to ensure justice.
The Benue Police Command is expected to release an official update upon conclusion of the CID’s findings. Meanwhile, the incident serves as a grim reminder of how unresolved family disputes can quickly turn deadly.
