Sex-for-Grade Scandal: Over 50 Lecturers Face Sanctions in Nigerian Universities - Full List of Disgraced Academics

Nigerian university lecturers dismissed for sexual harassment scandals

Nigerian tertiary institutions have cracked down on sexual misconduct, with over 50 lecturers facing disciplinary actions between 2021 and 2025, according to investigations by The PUNCH. The shocking revelations show professors and lecturers across universities and polytechnics have been dismissed or suspended for sexually harassing students.

Recent cases include:

  • Dr. Usman Aliyu dismissed by Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University for harassing a married postgraduate student

  • Three lecturers fired by Lagos State University of Science and Technology in April 2025

  • Four unnamed lecturers dismissed by Federal University Lokoja in November 2024

  • UNILAG, UNIPORT, and OAU have all dismissed multiple lecturers since 2021

Despite a 2021 Senate bill proposing 21-year jail terms for such offenses, the law remains unsigned. A 2018 World Bank survey found 70% of female graduates experienced harassment, mostly from lecturers.
