Kidnapped Katsina businessman dies in bandits captivity



Tragedy struck as kidnapped Katsina businessman Alhaji Balan Auwal Mai Gwanjo has died in captivity, two months after being abducted by bandits. The elderly victim was taken alongside his son during a February 26, 2025 attack on Malumfashi town.


According to family sources, the bandits called on May 11 to announce his death. The assailants had engaged security forces in a gun battle before succeeding in their kidnapping operation. The son's current status remains unknown.


This incident highlights the worsening security situation in Northwest Nigeria, where bandits continue to terrorize communities despite government efforts.
