Manchester United’s commanding 3-0 away win against Athletic Club in the Europa League semi-final has been met with criticism from MUTV pundit David May. Despite the impressive scoreline, May expressed frustration over the team’s failure to capitalize further against a 10-man Athletic side.

The Red Devils secured a three-goal lead by halftime, with goals from Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes (2), the latter converting a penalty following Daniel Vivian’s red card. However, May believes United missed an opportunity to “kill the tie” by not pushing for more goals in the second half.

“I thought we should have gone for them, score four or five, put it to bed,” May stated on MUTV. “They were there for the right doing. I think we could have got another couple of goals.”

United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, echoed a cautious sentiment, emphasizing the need to remain focused ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford. “Any game can change with one situation,” Amorim warned.

While the victory places United in a strong position for the Europa League final, the criticism highlights the importance of maintaining intensity throughout both legs of the tie.
