In a sweeping crackdown on cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a total of 78 suspected internet fraudsters across Nasarawa, Abia, and Kano states.

The arrests, which took place over several days, were part of the agency’s intensified operations to combat online scams and digital financial crimes in Nigeria.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, and reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the arrests followed credible intelligence gathered from various sources.
Oyewale revealed that 43 suspects were apprehended on Friday in Toto, Nasarawa State, after the EFCC received reliable tips linking them to cybercrime.
He added that 30 other suspects were picked up on Thursday in the Ariam and Ubakala areas of Abia State during a coordinated sting operation.
In a separate effort earlier in the week, EFCC operatives from the Kano Zonal Directorate arrested five suspects at Farm Centre in Kano on Tuesday.

“All the suspects are currently undergoing profiling and investigations. They will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries,” Oyewale said.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to rooting out internet-related criminal activities, especially as cyber fraud continues to damage Nigeria’s global reputation and hurt economic development.

The arrests highlight the agency’s sustained efforts under its renewed strategy to clamp down on tech-based crimes that have become widespread, particularly among young Nigerians.
As digital fraud remains a pressing national issue, the EFCC encouraged Nigerians to stay vigilant and report suspicious online activities.
