Former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31 after a series of injuries at Serie A side Como. 

The 93-cap French international, a four-time Champions League winner and 2018 World Cup champion, decided to hang up his boots following a difficult stint at Como where he struggled with persistent knee issues. 

Varane, who joined Como after leaving Old Trafford, made just one appearance before deciding to retire. 
His legendary career includes spells at Real Madrid and Manchester United, solidifying his status as one of the greatest defenders of his generation.
