Nigerian Police Announce N20m Bounty for Briton and Nigerian in Treason Plot

In a significant development following the August 1 protests, Nigerian police have declared a Briton, Andrew Wynne (also known as Andrew Povich), and a Nigerian, Lucky Obiyan, wanted for allegedly plotting to overthrow the democratically elected government. A N10 million bounty has been placed on each of them.

Police investigations reveal that Wynne, who rented space at the Labour House headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), allegedly built a network of sleeper cells and founded a school as a front for his activities aimed at creating national chaos. The police have also re-invited Labour leader Joe Ajaero for questioning to clarify his relationship with Wynne.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Muyiwa Adejobi stated that Wynne and Obiyan have fled the country and are now international fugitives.

The police have promised a N10 million reward for anyone providing information that leads to their arrest. Citizens are encouraged to report any sightings to the nearest police station or directly to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

This case highlights concerns about the stability of Nigeria’s democratic institutions and the lengths to which individuals will go to incite unrest and disorder.
