WHO Warns of COVID-19 Resurgence Amid Summer Surge, Urges Vaccination

The World Health Organization (WHO) warns of a worrying resurgence of COVID-19, with new waves of infection across the Americas, Europe, and the Western Pacific. 

Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove from WHO reported that test positivity rates have been rising, reaching over 20% in Europe.

Wastewater surveillance suggests that actual infection rates could be much higher than reported figures. Despite lower hospital admissions compared to the pandemic's peak, 

WHO urges governments to strengthen vaccination campaigns, especially for high-risk groups.

The organization is also concerned about the emergence of more severe variants that could evade current detection and treatment methods. 

WHO highlights the need for nasal vaccines under development to address transmission more effectively.
