Ride-hailing service Bolt is facing significant financial losses after a prank involving fake ride orders between Nigerians and South Africans.

The prank, fueled by an ongoing rivalry between the two countries, led to Bolt restricting inter-country ride requests and blocking numerous riders.

This resulted in severe disruptions to their services in both regions.

Yahaya Mohammed, Bolt's Country Manager, stated that the company is conducting an investigation to assess the extent of the financial damage caused by this prank.

"We are looking into the financial losses incurred and considering further sanctions, including restricting access to the Bolt app for users in both Nigeria and South Africa," Mohammed added.
