EPL: Bruno Fernandes was angry after failing to join Man Utd’s rivals
Manchester United playmaker, Bruno Fernandes, has admitted he was angry when his move to Tottenham Hotspur fell through.
Fernandes eventually joined United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 in a £67m move.
The Portugal midfielder hit the ground running at Old Trafford, scoring 37 goals and providing 26 assists in 93 appearances.
But things could have been different for Fernandes, as Spurs tried to sign Fernandes while Mauricio Pochettino was in charge but Sporting Lisbon rejected their advances.
“Obviously I wanted to go to the Premier League. Their manager (Pochettino) was the one who wanted me there.
“It was a good offer, but Sporting Lisbon tried their best to keep me. The president (Frederico Varandas) spoke with me. But he spoke with me on the wrong day.
“It was the day after they made the decision to refuse the offer from Tottenham and I was really angry. Luckily for me, the manager (Marcel Keizer) was the right one at the right time,” Fernandes told The Athletic.
