Wolves appoint Lopetegui as new manager
Wolves have appointed former Spain and Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui as the club’s new manager.
Lopetegui succeeds Bruno Lage, who was sacked on October 2 after winning just one of his final 15 games in charge.
He will begin work on November 14 when he officially takes charge at Molineux after Wolves’ final Premier League game before the World Cup against Arsenal.
Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said: “Julen is a top coach, with excellent experience at an elite level of the game, and we are very pleased to have agreed a deal to bring him to Wolves.
“Since the very beginning, Julen has been our number one choice to manage Wolves, and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks.”
We are delighted to announce Julen Lopetegui will take charge as our new head coach on Monday 14th November.
Lopetegui was sacked by Sevilla at the start of October, two years after guiding the La Liga club to a record sixth Europa League crown in 2020.
Wolves approached Lopetegui last month but the 56-year-old Spaniard rejected the move due to personal reasons, forcing the Midlands club to explore alternative targets.

EPL: Erik Ten Hag reacts to Casemiro’s Player of the Month award
Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has credited the whole of his squad for Casemiro’s Player of the Month win.
He said that the award handed to the Brazilian for the month of October is a testament to the togetherness in his dressing room.
United beat Real Sociedad 1-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night, though the result was not enough to help them avoid the play-off.
The Red Devils travel to Birmingham to face Aston Villa at the weekend but before then Casemiro was voted the club’s Player of the Month.
“The right players with the right players who were already there and, together, they are forming a team and the team spirit is good, it’s high,” the Dutchman told Manchester United’s official website.
‘So also to keep that going, keep constructing that, keep building that, and bring even more passion and desire in because we want to win something” he added.

Ajibade nominated for Atletico Femenino POTM
Following her impressive performance for Spanish club, Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade has been nominated for the October Player of the Month Award at Atletico Madrid Femenino, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Fútbol Mahou, an official sponsor of the club, on Twitter handle unveiled their five nominees for the club’s player of the month which included the Ajibade.
The Nigerian forward, who had an underwhelming performance in September, was in fine form in the month of October and was largely responsible for the club’s rise on the log during the month under review.
The former FC Robo star was involved in five of Atletico Madrid’s twelve goals in October, including her first-ever hat-trick for the Spanish side in their 5-0 thrashing of Huelva.
Atletico Madrid picked up eight points from a possible fifteen in the Laliga Femeni, no thanks to the 22-year-old superlative display in the month under review.
In recognition of her goals contributed to the club and their turn in fortune, Las Colchoneras have put up the Nigerian alongside Ainhoa Moraza, Ludmila Silva, Shei, and Estefania Banini in contention for the player of the month for October.
The Super Falcons star has struck four goals in seven games for Atletico Madrid Femenino this season. If she continues at her current trajectory, she could beat her season-best of ten league goals in this campaign.
