A Police Patrol Team Nine from GRA Division on routine patrol at Summit Junction in Asaba, Delta State have arrested a security guard, Sunday Isaac for killing his boss, Joy Onekanse.

Sunday Isaac reportedly murdered Joy Onekanse who was declared missing nearly a month ago.

The suspect who already confessed to the crime led Police detectives to the shallow grave where he buried the deceased with her head faced down in her residence.

When contacted for comments, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Hafiz Inuwa confirmed the report in a text message sent to our correspondent in Warri.

The State Police boss said, “Exhumation of the corpse and autopsy is now on.”

It was learnt that the suspect was arrested in possession of a suspected stolen black Colored Toyota Avalon Car with Registration number KSF 322FK.

The suspect who was arrested because he could not give a satisfactory account of how he came about the car.

The brother of the deceased, John Onekanse had earlier reported a case of his missing sister on 27/08/2020.

He identified the recovered car at the Police Station to be that of his missing sister.

A primary school teacher, Mr Patrick Ekpenisi, has allegedly brutalised his parents over a parcel of land offered for sale by the father in the Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The 78-year-old father, Benson Ekpenisi, who hails from Owan-Nta Aliosimi, said he and his wife had suffered untold hardship in the hands of their son, Patrick.

Narrating their ordeal, Benson stated that trouble started when Patrick learnt that he planned to sell a piece of land to repair the leaking roof of his house and settle to take care of their needs.

Benson said that was not the first time that Patrick would beat up his parents and accused the Owa Oyibu Divisional Police Station of complicity as nothing had been done about the earlier reported cases.

He called on the state government and other relevant authorities to quickly come to his aid before Patrick would kill him and his wife.

Another son of the distraught parents, David, said Patrick lifted his father up and threw him to the ground several times and tried to kill him by hitting his head on the palm tree he was sitting under, but the old man managed to escape.

David stated, “I am speechless. For over three years, Patrick, a primary school teacher, has never allowed my parents to rest.

“I am calling on the AIG, the DPO of Owa-Oyibu, the NUT Ika North-East and the governor of Delta State to come to our aid. Patrick boasted countless times that he is above the law.”

When contacted, Patrick accused his parents and siblings of selling over 85 plots of land in order to travel abroad. Punch

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have abducted a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Agwameseh, on the Onicha-Olona Road in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.


Fr. Agwameseh, who is the parish priest of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Issele-Mkpitime, was said to have been abducted on Saturday while returning from Onicha-Olona, where he had gone to produce the Sunday service bulletin for his parish when the kidnappers ambushed his car.

The Director of Social Communications, Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku, Delta State, Rev. Fr. Charles Uganwa, who confirmed the abduction, stated that the hoodlums had established contact with some parishioners and demanded N20m ransom to free the priest.


He stated, “The priest was returning to his base in Issele-Mkpitime when he was attacked by Fulani herdsmen and whisked away to an unknown location.

“He was returning from Onicha-Olona, where he had gone to produce last Sunday’s  bulletin for his parish, when the kidnappers ambushed his car.”


The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the abduction of the priest on Monday, said the command was intensifying efforts to release him.

A police officer serving at the B Division in Asaba has allegedly shot a female colleague dead in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The Punch gathered that the killing occurred on Saturday during the demolition of illegal structures at the Bonsaac area of Asaba by the officials of state Ministry of Environment in company with some police officers.

It was learnt that trouble started when the market women tried to resist the exercise.

An eyewitness said that on hearing gunshots, the women charged at the firing policeman and that in the process, a bullet from an accidental shot from the policeman hit his female colleague at the back.

The suspected killer cop, it was learnt, had been detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The source said the policewoman was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre  Asaba where she was confirmed dead

He alleged that one Chief Bidi “has been molesting market women for a very long time and wanted to forcefully drive them from a plot of land they rented and set up caravans, paying the owner of the land N2,000 monthly rent for each container.

The state Commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said investigation was ongoing.

He said, “The matter is at the state Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba, so we are waiting for the report of the incident”

Malam Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has said that the corporation has begun repair of its damaged Abura Crude Trunkline.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Abura Crude Trunk line at Otu-Jeremi town in Delta experienced an eruption on Friday.

Kyari, who gave the assurance on Saturday in Benin shortly after the tee-off at the 2019 (NNPC) upstream golf tournament, said the repair would be completed in three days.

“It wasn’t an explosion, it was an eruption on our pipeline, our team has moved to the site and in three days we are going to fix it.

“We have curtailed the spill that is coming out, so its not an explosion but an eruption because there was no fire in the place.

“It will have no effect on power supply. We are going to fix it soon,’’ he said.

Kyari explained that what happened was a safety procedure to stabilise the facilities.

Commenting on the Benin Golf Club, Kyari said it was very important to NNPC, as so much of their operations hold at the Benin Golf Course.

The Delta State Police Command led by CP Adeyinka Adeleke has foiled a syndicate of motorcycle snatchers along Abavo road in Ikah North East Local Government Area of the State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya disclosed this in a statement signed and made available to DAILY POST.

Onovwakpoyeya said CP Adeyinka Adeleke has requested anyone whose motorcycles got stolen in Owa-Oyibu and its environs to go to the Owa-Oyibu Police Station to check.

There is serious tension in Udu as gunmen reportedly shot dead a suspected internet fraudster popularly known as “Yahoo boy” simply identified as Obus, for swindling them at Igbiki layout close in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

DAILY POST gathered that the deceased and his girl friend had just returned from an outing when the gunmen struck.

The gunmen seized the deceased’s girlfriend and ordered her to take them (gunmen) to his room where they shot him dead.

The gunmen left the scene of incident without hurting any other person in the area.

However, the deceased decided to play the “sharp man’s” game as he carted away the money from gunmen who were members of his internet fraud syndicate.

A young woman, whose identity is unknown  has been discovered dead three days after she was allegedly gang-raped by some men in a hotel room in the Amukpe community, in  the Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

The woman’s corpse was already decomposing when it was found under the bed on Monday, August 19, 2019.

It was learnt that the deceased was ganged-raped by some men, who brought her to the hotel three days before she was found dead.

The men reportedly hid her remains under the bed and checked out of the hotel.

The offensive odour coming from the room attracted the hotel management, who eventually called in the police.

The police swung into action and evacuated the body. Her corpse was deposited in a morgue and the hotel was shut down.

When contacted for comments, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke, confirmed the incident in a telephone chat with our correspondent,.

“It is true that a woman died in a hotel in Sapele. I don’t know what killed her and how she died,” Adeleke said.(Punch)

A yet-to-be-identified girl has been reported dead three days after she was allegedly gang-raped by some boys in a hotel room in Amukpe community in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

The remains of the deceased was already decaying when it was found under the bed in the said hotel on Monday August 19.

It was learnt that the deceased girl was severally raped to death by some boys who brought her to the hotel three days before she was found dead.

The boys reportedly hid her remains under the bed and checked out of the hotel room.

Swinging into action, the police evacuated and deposited the corpse in a morgue and shutdown the hotel.

Suspected armed robbers have dispossessed residents of the “B Police Barracks” along Benin-Onitsha expressway in Asaba, Delta state, of their belongings.

The SUN quoted some of the residents as saying the suspects have been taking advantage of the darkness at the barracks occasioned by lack of electricity supply to carry out the act.

The transformer serving the barracks was reportedly vandalised about two months ago.

Another resident reportedly said they contributed N3,000.00 each to fix the vandalised transformer but that, since one month ago that they took the step, nothing has changed.

The residents appealed to the state police command to investigate the matter and “save us from the hands of these tormentors”.

However, Adeyinka Adeleke, commissioner of police in the state, dismissed the issue of robbery but admitted that the barrack had been in darkness due to the vandalised transformer.

A 31-year old man, Mr. Luke Megbune has accused the management of Capitol Hill Clinic of allegedly detained his wife, Mrs. Blessing and his newborn twins, over his inability to pay three million naira medical bill incurred.

Megbune, who dashed into the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel looking helpless, said his wife and babies have been in the hospital for three months and eighteen days since after delivery.

Megbune also said the hospital had allegedly threatened to take his babies to the orphanage home if he cannot pay the medical bills.

The father, from Ubuluku Community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State said, “I cannot watch them take my children to the orphanage home when I am still alive. Those children have great destinies.”

Megbune said he had tried all means possible to raise the said amount to no avail.

Narrating the incident, Megbune said his wife, Blessing delivered the babies on the 5th of April after carrying the pregnancy for six months (premature)at the General Hospital in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

“The first one weighed 1kg and the second one weight about 0.75kg. They were okay.

“They later referred us to Central Hospital, Warri because of lack of equipment. On arrival at the Central Hospital in Warri, they said they don’t have enough equipment and referred us to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.

“They told us that going to Oghara that the babies have little chances of survival and they have just two hours to live.

“A good Samaritan came and said that he knows a hospital within Warri that can handle the situation. That was how we ended up at Capitol Hill Hospital along Airport road.

“They commenced treatments. They worked but after all said and done, they gave us the bill of over three million naira.

“I don’t have any money with me. The little business I am doing has crumbled. No help anywhere and that’s why I am here begging you and the public to help me raise the money and save my children from going to the orphanage home.”

In swift reaction, the Managing Director of the hospital simply identified as Matthew denied the allegations, noting there was no time the wife and twin babies were detained nor threatened to be taken to the orphanage by the hospital.

He said the babies were in the hospital and Megbune’s wife, Blessing comes from the house to breast feed them daily.

Matthew said Megbune was only trying to tarnish the image of the hospital with his actions.

Matthew who described Megbune as a “crafty man” and gave the hospital’s version of the story.

He said the babies were given birth to as pre-term(premature) in another hospital.

Matthew also pointed out that out of over three million naira medical bill incurred, Megbune had only paid one million, two hundred thousand naira.

According to him, when they came, we told them (Mr. Megbune) that it will cost him money to save the babies but he (Megbune) said his church was willing to offset the medical bills.

He said the church actually came, but paid only six hundred thousand naira out of the said sum.

The Police in “A” Division in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday evening arrested a 40-year-old man simply identified as Mudiaga for allegedly defiling a three-year-old baby (names withheld).

The suspect who is cooling off his heels at the Police Cell had been on the run since the day of incident especially when it was reported to the Police.

He was apprehended at about 4pm with the help of Iyara Community youth leader and his foot soldiers who in turn handed him over to the Police.

DAILY POST learnt that the suspect allegedly defiled the young girl on Wednesday July 31 at Iyara Street.

The baby’s mother, who noticed the child’s endless cry and perceived agony wanted to bath the child after all possible pacification of the child only to notice the ugliness of the private part of the little girl.

She rushed her to the Delta Hospital Mabagement Board where the child was examined and admitted until yesterday, Friday August 2.

A medical report by the Hospital, however, confirmed the alleged defilement of the infant.

According to the medical report, “There were attempts but because of the age, it couldn’t penetrate, thereby causing serious injury.”

A human rights Activist in Warri Delta State, Comrade Israel Joe, has described the incident as ugly and callous.

He noted that the matter was first incidented at the “A” Division Police Station and all efforts were made to apprehend the suspect were unsuccessful until today.

“I personally requested armed policemen from the Area Commander Warri yesterday when I met him to discuss the issue with him and he instructed some police from A Division to ensure the suspect is apprehended.

“I had called the Iyara youth leader at about 1am this early morning l, telling him to send some of the youths to the suspect’s house but all to no avail.

“At about 2pm on Saturday, I called the DPO A Division Warri to remind him on the need to apprehend the suspect, because other children in the area were not safe.

“He assured me that the police will do everything within their powers to get him arrested as both the youths and Police were trailing the suspect.

“All medical reports from the Warri Central hospital are available in the police investigations and we urge the police under the viable leadership of CP Adeyinka Adeleke to prosecute the suspect as we seek stiffer penalty for defilement in order to purge our society off this vicious common trend.”

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Adeyinka Adeleke, did not pick his calls when Our Correspondent called him for confirmation of the report.
