Troops of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army operating under Operation WABAIZIGAN have arrested a suspected kidnapper along the high-density Benin–Sapele transport corridor in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was apprehended on September 12, 2026, during a targeted clearance operation in Obaretin Community.
The deployment was part of continuous military measures designed to disrupt criminal networks, dismantle ambush points, and safeguard transit corridors connecting Edo State to neighboring economic hubs.
Confirming the arrest in an official statement on Sunday, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 4 Brigade, Kennedy Anyanwu, outlined the operational recoveries.
Military personnel recovered one AK-47 assault rifle, one magazine loaded with eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, two backpacks, a flashlight, a music box, and various charms from the suspect.
Oyeniyi and the confiscated items remain in military custody as intelligence officers conduct further investigations to establish his connections to broader kidnapping syndicates operating along the Benin–Sapele highway.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its determination to deny criminal elements freedom of operation and sustain joint security patrols across Edo State.
