The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill has confirmed that the final executive bill package on policing reforms and state police implementation will be presented to President Bola Tinubu on September 3, 2026.
Briefing State House correspondents on Monday, Chief of Staff to the President and Working Group Chairman, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed that a national public consultation will precede the President's final sign-off.
Following approval, the finalized package—comprising legal audits, state readiness frameworks, and operational guidelines—will be formally transmitted to the National Assembly.

Gbajabiamila noted that while the Senate approved the State Police Constitutional Proposal on June 24 and the House of Representatives passed the Executive State Police Bill on July 23, 2026, constitutional ratification across state Houses of Assembly remains ongoing.
Until full state approval and supporting laws are established, the Nigeria Police Force remains the sole constitutionally recognized police authority.
