The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has become the third major governing body to formally reject FIFA’s controversial proposal to sell a stake in the FIFA World Cup to private investors.
Representing 47 member nations, the AFC released an official statement on Friday expressing "serious concerns" over the creation of a proposed $20 billion commercial subsidiary, the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), backed by New York investor Joshua Kushner.
The AFC’s position follows unprecedented pushback within world football. UEFA voted unanimously on Thursday to boycott all FIFA tournaments, while CONCACAF, representing North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, also flatly rejected the proposal.

The AFC noted that given the positions of UEFA and CONCACAF, the proposed investment plan cannot achieve the necessary consensus and called for an urgent review of FIFA’s decision-making frameworks.
In response to the growing global backlash, FIFA issued a statement denying that it was "selling football" and claiming that media reports had disrupted its consultation process.
However, the governing body conceded that without the backing of its 211 national member associations, its commercial structure would remain unchanged and FFE would not be established.
"In light of the clear positions expressed by UEFA and CONCACAF, as well as the unprecedented divisions that have emerged across the football world, the AFC believes that the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise cannot realistically achieve the necessary broad consensus...
