The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly faulted the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his decision to contest the 2027 presidential primary under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking during an intensive monthly media chat in Abuja on Monday, June 1, 2026, Wike asserted that the structural composition and administrative framework of the ADC leadership were intentionally engineered from inception to favor former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, leaving zero room for transparency or democratic due process.
Wike, who famously served as Chief of Staff during Amaechi’s tenure as Rivers State Governor, revealed that he would have explicitly advised his estranged political associate against joining the opposition race had his counsel been sought.
The FCT Minister argued that the emergence of former Senate President David Mark as the central chairman of the party’s planning committee served as a warning signal of a predetermined outcome.

He accused David Mark of previously failing to provide a level playing field during the highly controversial 2022 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries.
The media chat comes on the heels of last Monday's internal ADC primaries, where Atiku Abubakar was declared the winner with 1,846,370 votes, decisively defeating Amaechi, who polled 504,117 votes, and corporate businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who secured 177,120 votes.
Amaechi has completely rejected the election results, describing them via his official X handle as "concocted" fabrications that disenfranchised legitimate delegates. Meanwhile, in a bid to salvage party cohesion, Atiku has held private reconciliation meetings with both aggrieved contestants.
